The Quasi-War, 1798-1801

The “Quasi-War” was so named due to the fact it was an undeclared war, fought entirely at sea against the French, who opposed the expansion of the United States Merchant shipping. The US, at that time had a brand new Navy which had yet to be tested. The new service rose to the occasion, due to the highest standards of training, under Captain Thomas Truxtin. France agreed to an honorable settlement, and the United States Navy was firmly established.
